Lottie Crawshaw

I am a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist and Mental Health Nurse. I currently work part time at The Cavendish Clinic (formerly The National Psychology Clinic), at a Pain Psychology Service at a local NHS hospital, and as a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist in an NHS IAPT (Improving Access to Psychological Therapies) service based in Dorset.

I qualified as a Mental Health Nurse in 2000 and as a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist in 2009. I have worked in acute and complex care mental health community and hospital services, as well as primary and tertiary NHS services involving out-reach and recovery with a strong focus on therapeutic modalities including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy for Psychosis, Depression and Anxiety; Cognitive Remediation Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. My roles have been largely clinical, although have also included managerial and supervisory responsibilities. I have worked with adults and families with varying complexity and psychological needs, who present with a range of mental health symptoms and conditions.

Since 2008, I have specialised in working with adults with common mental health issues including depression, depression, anxiety, stress, worry, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Health Anxiety, Body Dysmorphia, low self-esteem, and long-term health conditions. This has included regularly conducting psychological assessments, providing individual and group Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, conducting training for staff as well as supervising trainees and qualified health professionals.

My private work and NHS roles have involved working extensively with adults with neurodevelopmental conditions, primarily autism and ADHD. This has included conducting private adult autism diagnostic assessments, as well as delivering individual and group cognitive behavioural therapy, tailoring treatment to meet individual needs and preferences.

For several years, I have also been specialising in delivering short-term psychological interventions for managing pain, whether this is persistent pain, or pain resulting from surgical procedures.

In my clinical work, I am passionate about empowering clients to meet their goals, become their own therapist and build resilience to cope with life stresses. The modalities I use are Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, mindfulness-based approaches, Compassion-Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and metacognitive approaches. My therapy style is warm, non-judgemental, with a focus on collaborative working.

Testimonials

You have both been incredibly kind and nothing has ever seemed too much trouble. The information, guidance and signposting to more sources of support will be invaluable.

It was a real pleasure to talk to people who really understood the complexity and subtlety of my son’s autism...it was great to see how you got beneath the surface to get the real story from him. You were kind, empathetic, encouraging and generous.

Very pleased that we were able to take advantage of their skills to assist [our son] in getting the diagnosis and help that he needs.

This was the best interaction I’ve ever had with professionals, they were super supportive and consistently made sure I was comfortable, and really took the time to understand me and my needs.

Kindness, Compassion, Non-judgemental, Ethical, Collaborative
