Post-Diagnostic Support Group

Many people receive a diagnosis of autism and or ADHD for the first time in adulthood. For some people, the diagnosis feels like a formality - confirming what they (and perhaps significant others in their lives) already knew. For others, this can feel more of a surprise, and a bit unsettling.

At The Cavendish Clinic, we offer individual, and couples and family post-diagnostic support, for adults people who have a diagnosis of autism and or ADHD. The content of these approaches is always individualised - we focus on what is important to each person, and anyone else they choose to invite to sessions.

Alongside or instead of these options, we also run post-diagnostic support groups periodically - one group is for adults who are autistic, and the second is for adults who have an ADHD diagnosis. Some people find group approaches beneficial – these can provide opportunities for them to meet others who have the same diagnosis and potentially some shared life experiences, and to learn from and support each other.

I was given a lot of information before the meeting and before we had even decided to go ahead with the assessment Debbie took a lot of time to talk to me in a very supportive way which put me at ease

You have both been incredibly kind and nothing has ever seemed too much trouble. The information, guidance and signposting to more sources of support will be invaluable.

It was a real pleasure to talk to people who really understood the complexity and subtlety of my son’s autism...it was great to see how you got beneath the surface to get the real story from him. You were kind, empathetic, encouraging and generous.

Very pleased that we were able to take advantage of their skills to assist [our son] in getting the diagnosis and help that he needs.

This was the best interaction I’ve ever had with professionals, they were super supportive and consistently made sure I was comfortable, and really took the time to understand me and my needs
